Fort Myers-based nonprofit to present newest film recounting their most significant legislative battle.
Captains For Clean Water (CFCW) is partnering with BIG ARTS of Sanibel Island to host an event premiering their latest film, "SB2508: A Death Threat to Everglades Restoration," this Thursday, May 11.
The film tells the story of a historic battle over a bad bill and an underdog's triumph during the 2022 legislative session, when CFCW supporters rallied to oppose Senate Bill 2508 and safeguard the future of Everglades restoration. Viewers will get an inside look into how the voices of many can create an uproar and stop politically-influential special interests in their tracks.
“I'm thrilled to finally premiere this film, our team believes it will reignite your passion to protect our waters," said CFCW Policy Director Jessica Pinsky. "The groundswell of opposition shown in this film was made up of over 50,000 passionate action-takers, proving that every voice DOES matter, and our waters need as many as they can get."
Following the film, there will be a Q&A panel featuring CFCW Executive Director Daniel Andrews, South Florida Water Management District Board Chair Chauncey Goss, and Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation CEO James Evans.
The event will take place Thursday, May 11 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at BIG ARTS, 900 Dunlop Rd., Sanibel Island, FL 33957. The event is free to attend and open to the public, however, RSVP is required. Refreshments will be available. The event will not be live-streamed.
